Artifacts of Erosion Print

$25.00

A print featuring all 17 artifacts from our studio project, Artifacts of Erosion. Each 11”x17” print is printed locally in Salt Lake City on FSC® Certified paper manufactured with 100% renewable energy using 100% post consumer recycled paper fibers.

A bit about Artifacts of Erosion - A study in documentation + recontextualization through a collection of artifacts from the west desert. The erosion of these artifacts, through several processes, is published in Issue 04 of LICHEN. The artifacts themselves are recontexualized through a few different mediums -- this 11x17” print, several social media posts, a sheet of stickers, and a small run of printed masking tape. The artifacts will continue to be recontextualized on social media feeds, hung on the walls of homes, stuck on the back of stop signs, and used to hang other artifacts or seal the contents of a letter. The physical artifacts reside in a hand-carved wooden bowl on a shelf in our studio where they will continue their process of erosion.

"Through each process of erosion, the texture of each artifact thickened from the fine sand of a high quality photograph to the coarse grain of a dusty printhead and file degradation; the threshold between the natural material of each artifact and the machined smoothness of the paper has become nearly indecipherable." - LICHEN 04
